Tajudeen Abbas, a Nigerian academic and politician, has been serving as the 15th Speaker of the House of Representatives since 2023.

Abbas was born on October 1, 1963, in Kwarbai, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree, both from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He later acquired his doctorate degree in business administration from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
He began his profession as a primary school teacher. He later became a lecturer at a polytechnic. He was a lecturer at Kaduna State Polytechnic from 1993 to 2001.
He moved to the private sector, where he worked as a marketing manager at the Nigerian tobacco distribution company, now the British-American Tobacco Company.
In 2010, he joined politics, where he contested for the House of Representatives seat in 2011 and was elected.

Tajudeen Abbas’s Political Career
In 2010, Abbas ventured into politics, marking the beginning of his political journey. He decided to run for the House of Representatives seat in 2011, and to the delight of his supporters, he emerged victorious.
During the 8th Assembly from 2015 to 2019, Abbas gained recognition for his prolific legislative work. He sponsored a remarkable number of bills, holding the record as the highest bill sponsor during that period. What’s even more impressive is that, between 2019 and 2023, he continued his legislative prowess by sponsoring an astounding 74 bills, out of which 21 were successfully signed into law.
Throughout his tenure in the House, Abbas actively participated in various committees, contributing his expertise to crucial areas such as Commerce, Finance, Special Duties, Defence, Public Procurement, and National Planning and Economic Development.
Before assuming the role of Speaker, Abbas served as the House Committee Chairman for Land Transport. In a testament to his popularity and leadership abilities, he secured the position of Speaker for the 10th Assembly with a resounding majority, garnering 353 out of 359 votes.
