Ciolacu no longer wants “exceptions on top of exceptions” to the Fiscal Code: We must return to an equal competitive climate in Romania

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Friday that there are exceptions to the Fiscal Code of approximately 74 billion, a totally abnormal thing, and that the Ministry of Finance is currently doing an analysis. “Yes, I think that certain exceptions will have to be made in the future, this does not mean that from our preliminary analysis, we will go to IT exceptions at this moment,” said Ciolacu, quoted by News.ro.

  • “We must return to an equal competitive climate in Romania. The period of exceptions on top of exceptions is over”, the head of the Executive also affirmed.

The Prime Minister said that an analysis is currently being done at the Ministry of Finance, but they will not make any decision until they have talked to all the actors involved.

  • “The PNRR stipulates that we start removing exceptions. Yes, I think that certain exceptions will have to be made in the future, this does not mean that from our preliminary analysis we will go to IT exceptions at this moment. There have been exceptions for almost 20 years, as far as I know, and they have brought something beneficial, an important hub in Romania, this exception,” said Ciolacu.

The Prime Minister specified that “there are exceptions to the Fiscal Code of approximately 74 billion”.

  • “It is a totally abnormal thing and a recommendation from all international financial bodies. In other words, we must return to an equal competitive climate in Romania. The period of exceptions on top of exceptions is over”, said the head of the Executive.
